Winter Beauty Favorites

Winter Beauty Favorites

Hello my readers! Today I wanted to do something a bit different and share with you my Winter beauty favorites! One of my new year’s resolutions is to take pride and take my time when putting myself together in the morning. I find that wearing a bit of makeup and spending time getting ready really makes me feel so much more confident throughout the day. Maybe this isn’t for you, and that’s okay–but this truly does make me happy. And I think that is great! Most of these products are affordable, and even the ones that are high-end are not outrageously expensive. I try to have a mix of types of products and only spend money on things I can truly see myself wearing often and loving. By making conscious and mindful purchases, I ensure that I love everything I own–including my beauty products.

Starting at the top is my NYX tinted brow gel. This stuff is definitely a game changer for my eyebrows. It locks them in place while still adding some tint, and on days when I am just wearing the tiniest bit of makeup, I always enjoy applying this. I think it makes a big difference and does the quick trick!

I have been loving my MAC blush in “Breath of Plum.” It is a sheertone so the pigmentation can be super light but also build-able. I think it is a great Winter shade but I can definitely see myself wearing this year round. And I LOVE that it is matte because I can wear my highlight and not feel that my face is too shimmery. Shoutout to my lovely boyfriend for treating me to this!

The Benefit Roller Lash mascara is my all-time favorite. It lengthens and I don’t even use a curler with it.

I have seen numerous bloggers rave about the Mario Badescu facial spray…and I finally know why. I use this before and after my makeup to hydrate my skin and feel fresh and dewy. And it is super affordable, too!

I saw this Maybelline quad in “Chai Latte” at Ulta one day when I was looking for a small palette with a matte brown shadow, and this one really does the trick. I also saw JAMBeauty89 talk about it (check her out–you won’t regret it!) after I purchased, and I instantly got so excited! It is such a great quad for every day, but the gold shadow is awesome for transitioning to a date night look.

This Revlon lipstick is my new go-to for day and night. It is natural enough but it still gives my lips some life, and it doesn’t dry them out at all.

The Stila “Kitten” eyeshadow is a cult favorite…and for good reason. It is so shimmery and so buildable at the same time, and soon after purchasing it I became hooked. I especially love this shade for winter because it brightens my eyes and gives them a glowy look. I know there are so many drugstore dupes for it, but this was a little gift to myself, and I know if I am careful I can make it last.

Finally, the NYX HD translucent pressed finishing powder is amazing. I am new to translucent powders for setting my undereyes so I wanted to start off with one that was pressed and not messy. And I am so happy I did! This is finely milled and helps my concealer not crease. I have loved using it in areas where I get a little oily during the day, while omitting it from areas where I want to loon more fresh and dewy.

If you like this style of blog post, please let me know! I am trying to expand my topics more and make this blog have a little something for everyone. Thank you for reading!

Bailee Takes Taiwan: Travel Essentials (So Far!)

Bailee Takes Taiwan: Travel Essentials (So Far!)

Hi everyone! With my upcoming trip to Taiwan this winter, I have begun thinking about what I want to bring. There are so many things that come to mind when I think of travel essentials (especially after reading Backpacks and Blackboards’s super helpful packing list), but very few that I realize I actually need to bring with me. So, I have narrowed it down to the top six things I think I should bring on my trip. Here they are!

1. A windbreaker.

Thunderstorms are currently on the horizon for Taipei, and while I can’t be too sure what the weather will be like this winter, so given the unpredictability I think a windbreaker should definitely be an essential. I bought mine over the summer at Wal-Mart for around $14. Normally I don’t buy clothes at Wal-Mart, but as a college student on a budget, I definitely swoop on any deal I can. The windbreaker is black, lightweight, hooded, and (the best part) can be tightened at the waist. Rain or shine, this light jacket will come in handy.

Tip: purchase jackets one size larger! This way, you can wear big sweaters underneath and still feel comfy.

2. My Macbook Pro.

While I wouldn’t normally consider bring a computer on a vacation, I want to make sure I can write blog posts about every destination, as well as Facetime my family. Therefore, this laptop will definitely be my late night and early morning BFF.

3. Lip balm.

My recent favorite is the EOS lip balm in honeydew melon. It tastes light a fruity and does a great job at moisturizing my lips. The best part? It is so large and oddly shaped that I can always find it in my purse or backpack! I have heard that airplanes are very dry, so this will keep my lips from getting gross and chapped.

4. Moisturizer.

As we are getting into the depths of fall, my skin has been terribly dry. It is awful! So I have been using the Trader Joes Nourish Moisturizer. It is lightweight, can be worn under makeup, and I never forget to apply it before bed. I will definitely be bringing this in a travel container. Who knows how my skin will react to the weather in Taiwan?

5. Mascara.

I will probably bring a small makeup bag with me (upcoming blog post to come), but mascara is my number one product. The Covergirl Super Sizer mascara separates my lashes while making them nice and thick with just one or two coats. If I don’t wear any other makeup, I’ll definitely look more awake while wearing this.

6. Booties.

You can never go wrong with a pair of tan booties! I have had these Sam and Libby ones from Target for around a year, and they are still going strong. They are broken in perfectly and go with any outfit — skirts/dresses with tights, skinny jeans, you name it! Plus they are super comfortable to walk in, which is a must, Chris tells me, because we will be doing a LOT of walking in Taiwan.

Thanks for reading! Please let me know what your travel essentials are, especially for tropical winter climates.

Hello! Wow, long time no post. Since starting my junior year of college, life has been incredibly busy but exciting at the same time. I have been learning a new language, continuing my internship in the English department, editing for my college newspaper, and also working! It feels like everything has been happening at once, which is so great but also really scary. I haven’t been updating this blog as much as I like to, and that is partially because I haven’t had any photos but also because I haven’t felt as inspired. BUT hopefully this fall-themed post will change that!
Last week, Chris and I went to the pumpkin patch with a group of friends for our friend Maddie’s birthday. It was so fun! I have been wanting an excuse to go to the pumpkin patch this year, but Chris and I have just been so busy that we didn’t get around to it for a while. But we had a great time!! Unfortunately, I got lost in the corn maze for a while, so that was pretty frustrating because it was just so hot (90 degrees!!) and I just wanted a cold drink. Eventually I got out though, so everything was fine. Haha! Chris and I ended up getting a small pumpkin for only $3, and he also bought us a jar of pumpkin butter. It was so sweet! I have been wanting to have pumpkin butter for so long, and I feel like he is so good as feeding my basic addictions and getting me pumpkin goodies all the time (we got PSLs and cocoa before the trip, hehehe).
As far as life goes, I just finished my midterms this week! It feels like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders. I have been feeling so overwhelmed these past couple weeks so it is nice to finally have a break from studying and focus on my work for Her Campus and the English department. I feel like I have been slacking on much with those commitments! I really need this weekend to catch up and relax.
I have also been feeling insecure lately. I have just been comparing myself to other people more than usual, and it is so unhealthy and daunting. I feel like I have been in a funk these past couple days and I just need to get some things off my chest and focus on the positives, and how I can change my frame of mind. I only have one life, and a day spent wallowing in self-pity is a day wasted. I just don’t like feeling lost or less! That is not fun at all. I think I will just take this time to focus on myself and what I want out of life and who I want to be as an individual, rather than thinking about what others are doing and what they think of me. Hopefully, it will make me feel better. I know it will.
That’s all I have for now! This post was more diary-centered, with the above photos that Chris took. He had a little photoshoot with me at the pumpkin patch and it was so cute because he would ask me to pose in front of so many things! It was kind of weird but also fun. It only makes me think about what it is going to be like when we go to Taiwan! We will have soooo many pictures. I can’t believe it is less than two months away!
Hope everyone has a fun and safe Halloween.

OOTD: Disneyland 60th Anniversary

OOTD: Disneyland 60th Anniversary

This past weekend, I went to Disneyland with my boyfriend, Chris, and his cousin, Aaron! It was the 60th anniversary celebration and we were beyond excited to see all of the new sights, events, and treats the park had to offer! Oddly enough, nearly all of the clothing items and accessories I wore were borrowed/gifts (oops!).

Starting at the top: my hat borrowed from Chrisit is a fedora he purchased while on vacation in Greece last summer, but similar, inexpensive ones can be found here.
The brown crossbody bag is borrowed from my old roommate, Eliana! She purchased it at H&M a few seasons ago, but similar styles can be found online or in-store.

My dress is a gift from Chris’s mother! She said she bought it from Abercrombie & Fitch with me in mind and she gave it to me the night before the tripbecause of the light fabric and white color, I thought it would be perfect for Disneyland! I can’t find it anymore online, but a very similar one can be found here. The dress is open-back, so underneath it I am wearing a white Roxy eyelet bralette, purchased at PacSun two years ago. I couldn’t find it on the website, but here is a very similar one from Abercrombie & Fitch! 🙂
In the photo above, you can just barely see my earrings. They are long, dainty, silver ones with faux diamonds. I can’t remember exactly where I got them, but ones with a very similar style are on Etsy!
My shoes (pictured in the top photo) are brown gladiator sandals from Wal Mart (I stole them from my mom, hehe).
We had such a wonderful time exploring the park! It was very warm, but nice and cool in the shade. Chris bought us all Dole whips, which was so sweet (literally!) and they cooled us off in the hot sun. My favorite rides were Space Mountain and Indiana Jones! They are so exhilarating; I don’t think Aaron, liked the fast rides very much, but overall he seemed to enjoy himself! Chris wanted to ride the Finding Nemo submarines and I wanted to ride Peter Pan, but we just didn’t manage to have the time to do everything we wanted in only one day. Oh well, I guess that means we need to plan another trip!
