We celebrated our three year anniversary three days early on Saturday by spending the morning at the Santa Barbara Pier, eating Backyard Bowls for breakfast, and then going to the farmer’s market! Some of our favorite memories together are walking in the sun and people watching, hand in hand. We love it! So this morning was absolutely wonderful.

Sunday Brunch

Sunday Brunch

Today, Chris and I went downtown to eat a delicious brunch! We were originally planning on going to Casablanca, one of our favorite Mexican restaurants in SB, but we decided to try Cajun Kitchen instead! Our friends are huge fans of this place and we have been wanting to check it out for a while. Even though it was a busy Sunday afternoon, we were seated within 20 minutes. I ordered biscuits and gravy, but unfortunately completely spaced and forgot that the gravy is cream-based, so my lactose intolerance caught up to me later. Blegh! Chris ordered jumbalaya, which was absolutely delicious. The past two weekends he has ordered the better dish and I end up getting so jealous! But he always shares, so that’s good.
After brunch, we went to Pressed Juicery because neither of us had ever tried it before. It was a day of firsts! We bought the Strawberry-Apple-Lime juice and it was super tasty, although the sourness from the lime was a little hard to deal with. We browsed in a few shops and I even got a perfume sample of Dolce & Gabbana’s Light Blue from Sephora. I think I want that to be my next perfume! But we’ll see…
We got home at three and rested for a bit before studying and doing homework! I have a paper due tomorrow for my writing class and I really need to study Chinese (there is just so much for me to know and I feel like I don’t have enough time to learn it all!). I have a midterm on Friday–eek!!
My roommate, Lizzy, and I are hosting a Friendsgiving party for our close friends on Wednesday, so my next blog post will probably be about that.
Happy Sunday!

Hello! Wow, long time no post. Since starting my junior year of college, life has been incredibly busy but exciting at the same time. I have been learning a new language, continuing my internship in the English department, editing for my college newspaper, and also working! It feels like everything has been happening at once, which is so great but also really scary. I haven’t been updating this blog as much as I like to, and that is partially because I haven’t had any photos but also because I haven’t felt as inspired. BUT hopefully this fall-themed post will change that!
Last week, Chris and I went to the pumpkin patch with a group of friends for our friend Maddie’s birthday. It was so fun! I have been wanting an excuse to go to the pumpkin patch this year, but Chris and I have just been so busy that we didn’t get around to it for a while. But we had a great time!! Unfortunately, I got lost in the corn maze for a while, so that was pretty frustrating because it was just so hot (90 degrees!!) and I just wanted a cold drink. Eventually I got out though, so everything was fine. Haha! Chris and I ended up getting a small pumpkin for only $3, and he also bought us a jar of pumpkin butter. It was so sweet! I have been wanting to have pumpkin butter for so long, and I feel like he is so good as feeding my basic addictions and getting me pumpkin goodies all the time (we got PSLs and cocoa before the trip, hehehe).
As far as life goes, I just finished my midterms this week! It feels like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders. I have been feeling so overwhelmed these past couple weeks so it is nice to finally have a break from studying and focus on my work for Her Campus and the English department. I feel like I have been slacking on much with those commitments! I really need this weekend to catch up and relax.
I have also been feeling insecure lately. I have just been comparing myself to other people more than usual, and it is so unhealthy and daunting. I feel like I have been in a funk these past couple days and I just need to get some things off my chest and focus on the positives, and how I can change my frame of mind. I only have one life, and a day spent wallowing in self-pity is a day wasted. I just don’t like feeling lost or less! That is not fun at all. I think I will just take this time to focus on myself and what I want out of life and who I want to be as an individual, rather than thinking about what others are doing and what they think of me. Hopefully, it will make me feel better. I know it will.
That’s all I have for now! This post was more diary-centered, with the above photos that Chris took. He had a little photoshoot with me at the pumpkin patch and it was so cute because he would ask me to pose in front of so many things! It was kind of weird but also fun. It only makes me think about what it is going to be like when we go to Taiwan! We will have soooo many pictures. I can’t believe it is less than two months away!
Hope everyone has a fun and safe Halloween.

Stearn’s Wharf: Saturday, August 15

Stearn’s Wharf: Saturday, August 15

This Saturday, Chris and I spent our late morning at Stearn’s Wharf, the pier in Santa Barbara, where we ate delicious seafood and basked in the sunshine. We have been wanting to eat on the pier for some time now, so it was wonderful for the two of us to finally make it happen! We were able to borrow our friend Maddie’s car, so that made the trip even more enjoyable, since we usually have to take the bus whenever we go on a date. It was so fun to spend some special time together, even though we are together so often anyway!

As seen in the picture above, we stood by the dolphin statue to take a picture together! This is very meaningful to me because my parents went to this same pier when they first got together, so it was really cool to be able to take a picture in the same spot as they did.
We could help but take some pictures of each other, of course! I love this one below of Chris because you can see the sail boats in the background. There were so many on this day!

Chris is wearing a white Superdry tank and a blue houndstooth Topman shirt that I recently bought for him. ๐Ÿ™‚
I am wearing a floral Kirra dress and I am using my new vegan leather BP by Nordstrom purse that Chris bought for me as a present!
We ate at the Santa Barbara Shellfish Co., located at the end of the pier. There was barely any wait, which was so surprising to me because the restaurant was very busy! It looks like a little shack with some picnic-style tables outside overlooking the harbor. We were hungry and so we took the first available seats, which happened to be stools alongside a bar inside the restaurant. But we didn’t complain! The atmosphere was very fun, welcoming, and historic. There were old framed photos hanging all over the walls, and directly behind us was the oyster bar.
Chris ordered the shrimp scampi and I ordered the shrimp and scallop pasta. Both came with a slice of warm bread and both dishes were so delicious!
We definitely enjoyed our food and we both said that it would be a great place to take our parents to! The restaurant had a wonderful, local vibe, despite the fact that it is without a doubt a tourist destination.
After eating, we sat at the end of the pier and watched the sail boats for a while. This was so fun! We also walked around and watched people while they fished. We agreed that we definitely want to come back to Stearn’s Wharf more often, and I suggested coming in the morning with warm drinks and sweatshirts to watch the fishermen and boats. It would be so fun and definitely relaxing!
We were on our way back to the car, which was near Backyard Bowls, when I saw this blue brick wall and couldn’t resist taking some pictures in front of it! ๐Ÿ™‚
At Backyard Bowls, Chris got an Island Bowl and I got a pitaya smoothie. We have tried the Island Bowl many times and we both think it is so good! I think that is my favorite bowl there, and it is definitely because of the mango inside. I can hardly resist mangos! My pitaya smoothie was also very tasty, and I enjoyed it even though there was banana inside, which I don’t normally like! I do love pitaya though (probably just because it is pink).
Overall, our morning at the pier was so much fun! I really hope we stick to our promise and go back soon. I would love to spend every weekend morning there if I could!

Saturday Brunch

Saturday Brunch

This morning, Chris and I took the bus to State Street to have breakfast! We didn’t know exactly where we wanted to go, but as we were walking toward the ocean we kept noticing Mexican restaurants, and Chris decided that he really wanted to eat at one of them. Since it was just past 10:00 AM, many of them were not yet open! Luckily, right near Stearn’s Warf, we stumbled across Casa Blanca, and our dining experience was everything we had hoped for.

We sat on the outdoor patio underneath these lovely yellow umbrellas, which soon came in handy as the summer rain creeped up on us. Because the restaurant served brunch, I was able to get breakfast food and Chris was able to order a more lunch-y dish! I ordered the Casa Blanca omeletteโ€”hands down, this was one of the best omelettes I have ever tasted. It had jack cheese, mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes, and bacon (SO MUCH BACON), and it was topped with avocado slices and queso fresco. Chris ordered a combination platter with a steak soft taco, a pork tamale, and a cup of tortilla soup (which he claims is the best tortilla soup he has ever had). The prices were pretty reasonable, and definitely worth it.

After brunch, we walked across the street to Backyard Bowls!
This is one of our favorite places in Santa Barbara; we would recommend it to anyone who loves fruit, smoothies, or healthy eats. Before we ordered our food, we peeked inside the chocolate shop next door. I wanted to buy a truffle, but I was so stingy with my money that I couldn’t bring myself to do it. At Backyard Bowls, Chris ordered a Brasil Bowl and I ordered the Cocoa Acai smoothie. We were both pleased with our orders, but next time we will probably stick with our usual Island Bowl. Sometimes ordering what you like most brings the best results. We walked back up State Street and sat on a bench eating for a little while before peeking in a few stores and then returning home. Here are a few photos!
Of course we took a few snapchats ๐Ÿ˜›

What a sweet boyfriend โค

The trees near our bench! Sometimes I wish those lights could be on all the time…

We had a lovely date this morning! Now I am writing this post while Chris takes a little cat nap. I have some leftover omelette, so maybe I will take a bite…hehehe ๐Ÿ™‚
